Everquest Ranger Headshot Guide

Headshot is a powerful ability exclusive to Rangers in the popular online game EverQuest (EQ). This ability allows a Ranger to instantly kill a lower-level humanoid mob with an archery-based attack that deals physical damage. The ability cannot be resisted or mitigated, making it a highly effective tool for farming XP and AAs.

To use Headshot, you must first purchase it as an AA and then use the “/Autofire” command to enable your character to shoot their bow repeatedly until the mob dies or you manually stop the action. The Headshot ability can only proc on the Ranger’s target and has a chance to activate with each ranged attack performed. However, it only works on humanoid mobs that are lower level than your character. You can refer to forums for updated information and specific tips from experienced players on AA, spell setups, and augments for Headshot farming.

There are 22 ranks of Headshot, with the first available at level 60 (requires rank 1 in archery master). A fast bow with high-damage arrows is best, as it fires more arrows and increases the chance of one being a Headshot. Dexterity and Mod2 combat effects also increase the proc rate of Headshot, along with haste and dex buffs.

Headshotting works best with Vinelash Cascade, a spell that will root then snare mobs in an area, allowing you to snare multiple mobs at the same time. The best place to Headshot is by far Plane of Fire, with other suggested zones including The Hive, Karana zone, and FM on Sarnaks and Goblins.

Other AAs that can help with Headshot farming include Endless Quiver (uses the same arrow as you currently have equipped but won’t consume the arrow), Archery Mastery, Bow Mastery, Ranged Finesse, and Trick Shot (gives you the chance to fire more than one arrow).

Leveling Tips:

  • Plane of Fire Tables until level 75, then move to The Hive
  • For a level 100 Ranger, try the bandits in the Karana zone
  • At level 110, consider farming in FM on Sarnaks and Goblins

This guide is basically irrelevant with the 3/12, 3/14, updates making all HS attacks current level - 1. So no more going 6 lvls below to do insane headshot kill counts.
