Magic: Legends Overworld Guide

The Magic: Legends multiverse consists of five playable overworlds where the storylines take place. Players will encounter different enemies, bosses, and NPCs across the different regions, as well as access to different coloured spell cards for the first completion of the region’s story line ordeals.

Overworld Reputation & Levelling

Upon completing the story line for each region, you have daily challenges that reward experience towards region level and equipment unlocks.

Daily challenges for overworlds can be found in the Guide section of in-game (Tab) menu. Currently these reset twice per day, once at 0800 UTC and again two hours later at 1000 UTC.

In addition to regional daily challenges, completing ordeals/story missions and overworld skirmishes at the Expert or Master difficulty rewards reputation experience to level up the region.

You can farm 10 000 XP (5 levels) per week, allowing for a total of 12 region levels to be gained weekly; 5 from expert/master XP + 7 daily from daily challenges.

Difficulty Scaling

The difficulty of the overworld can be changed via the in-game (tab) menu map, in the centre-bottom of the screen. There are four (4) difficulties to choose from, with Loadout Score being used as a suggestion to which one suits you best. Normal difficulty has no bonuses, suggested requirements,

With Damage and Health being affected by class level, you will see a significant difference on a Level 30 Class between Normal/Hard and Expert/Master. Additionally, jumping from a Level 30 class farming Expert or Master difficulties to a new Level 1, you will have to start in Normal or Hard difficulties until your Health scales with your Class Level to a point where you won’t get one-shot by Expert enemies, regardless of Loadout Score.

Overworld Map Icons

Within each realm you will find activities marked on your map that, upon completion, provide a combination of Spell Pages, Planar Mana, Gold, Unrefined Aether, and most importantly XP.

A maximum of 10 skirmishes can be present on the map at any one time, with an average of three Major/Special and the rest the being Minor.

These activities can be identified by the following icons on the map found in the in-game (Tab) menu.

*Shattered Reliquaries are not found on the Map, use your Reliquary Radar to detect these after capturing Mana Towers.

Tasks & Rewards for Overworld Activities

magic legends overworld minor skirmish icon Minor Skirmishes

Noted by a single sword in a diamond marker, Minor Skirmishes are the fastest and easiest of the three skirmish types with fewer objectives to complete. They typically follow the following structure:

  • 4-minute countdown timer
  • Defeat a single wave of tier 1-2 creatures from the region
  • Optional task to interact with 3-5 NPCs for +20 Gold each (20 second timer)
  • Defeat an Elite enemy with Empowered+1 Buff

As such, with their simplicity, come fewer rewards. For a Minor Skirmish on Normal difficulty (base rewards before difficulty multipliers), it took me 1:50 to complete with the following skirmish rewards:

  • 15 of each Planar Mana type (extra +15 for regional Mana)
  • 400 Unrefined Aether
  • 100 Gold
  • 7 Common Spell Pages
  • 2 Common Spell Pages
  • 1 Rare/Legendary Spell Page
  • XP varying based on share of kills and class level
  • + Loot from enemies killed during the Skirmish

magic legends overworld major skirmish icon Major Skirmishes

Noted by two swords in a diamond marker, Major Skirmishes involve a few more activities that are normally time or enemy wave gated. They follow a similar structure to Minor Skirmishes:

  • 5-minute countdown timer
  • Defend one or more objective(s) from enemies
  • Defeat the wave(s) of progressively more difficult enemies
  • Defeat an Elite enemy with Empowered+1 Buff

With greater difficulty and more time spent completing the skirmish, the rewards are also greater. For a Major Skirmish on Normal difficulty (base rewards before difficulty multipliers), it took me 2:10 to complete with the following skirmish rewards:

  • 50 of each Planar Mana type (extra +50 for regional Mana)
  • 750 Unrefined Aether
  • 160 Gold
  • 13 Common Spell Pages
  • 6 Uncommon Spell Pages
  • 1 Rare/Legendary Spell Page
  • ~66% more XP than Minor Skirmish
  • + Loot from enemies killed during the Skirmish

magic legends overworld special skirmish iconSpecial Skirmishes

Noted by three swords in a diamond marker, Special Skirmishes are a rare spawn instead of a Major Skirmish. They are similar in function to a Major Skirmish, with the difference in a greater time allowance and a more difficult Elite enemy to finish. A Special Skirmish typically follows a similar structure between regions:

  • 6-minute countdown timer
  • Defend one or more objective(s) from enemies
  • Defeat the wave(s) of progressively more difficult enemies
  • 30-second countdown timer to defeat an Elite Empowered+2 Buff enemy

With slightly greater difficulty and potentially more time spent completing the skirmish, the rewards are also greater. For a Special Skirmish on Normal difficulty (base rewards before difficulty multipliers), it took me 1:10 to complete with the following skirmish rewards:

  • 80 of each Planar Mana type (extra +80 for regional Mana)
  • 1 250 Unrefined Aether
  • 260 Gold
  • 23 Common Spell Pages
  • 9 Uncommon Spell Pages
  • 1 Rare/Legendary Spell Page
  • ~60% more XP than Major Skirmish
  • ~166% more XP than Minor Skirmish
  • + Loot from enemies killed during the Skirmish

Mana Towers

There are three (3) Mana Towers in each overworld and capturing these allow for the ability to find Shattered Reliquaries within the area of the captured tower.

Defending Mana Towers is some of the best XP/hour in the game and cycling between these with Major/Special skirmishes in-between is great for levelling a new class.

magic legends overworld mana tower assault icon Mana Tower Assault

Before being able to defend a Mana Tower, you must first capture it. There are a few objectives when capturing a Mana Tower.

  • Drive away enemy forces in waves (% counter in HUD)
  • Defeat the five (5) enemies that are connected to the tower via beam
  • Defeat Champion Empowered+1 Buff enemy

‘Unlocking’ the five enemies from the Tower seems to be gated by a certain type of enemy being killed from the waves – look for the ranged priests/clerics as they tend to run away when you chase them.

For a Mana Tower Assault on Normal difficulty (base rewards before difficulty multipliers), it took me 1:07 to complete (43 seconds faster than a Minor Skirmish) with rewards being the same as with a Minor Skirmish:

  • 15 of each Planar Mana type (extra +15 for regional Mana)
  • 400 Unrefined Aether
  • 100 Gold
  • 7 Common Spell Pages
  • 2 Common Spell Pages
  • 1 Rare/Legendary Spell Page
  • XP varying based on share of kills and class level
  • + Loot from enemies killed during the Skirmish

magic legends overworld mana tower defense icon Mana Tower Defense

Once a Mana Tower is captured, there are no markers on the Map until they come under attack. There is a 10 minute timer between capturing the Mana Tower and when the Defense event starts.

From the time of notification of ‘Mana Tower is Under Attack’, there is a 5-minute countdown until it has been captured by enemy forces.

If the timer lapses, or you are not able to clear the enemies within 5-minutes, the Tower immediately turns to a Mana Tower Assault event (Minor Skirmish rewards.)

Unlike the Assault event, Defending a tower is only clearing waves of enemies. Sometimes, if you are a few minutes late to the Defense, you will arrive at the Tower to find up to 50% of the enemies have already spawned in. This can be a little overwhelming at higher difficulties.

In addition to the waves of regular enemies, you will find the following stronger enemies at a Defense event spawning at various intervals:

  • Eight (8) Champions (2x 4 Champion spawns)
  • Two (2) Elites simultaneously

For a Mana Tower Defense on Normal difficulty (base rewards before difficulty multipliers), it took me 0:51 to complete (1:20 faster than a Major Skirmish) with rewards being the same as with a Major Skirmish:

  • 50 of each Planar Mana type (extra +50 for regional Mana)
  • 750 Unrefined Aether
  • 160 Gold
  • 13 Common Spell Pages
  • 6 Uncommon Spell Pages
  • 1 Rare/Legendary Spell Page
  • 67% more XP than Mana Tower Defense
  • + Loot from enemies killed during the Skirmish

magic legends overworld reliquary radar icon Shattered Reliquary

Shattered Reliquaries are hidden dungeons that can be located by a proximity radar under your mini-map. They do not appear on the map and can be found by following the pinging noise you hear.

The pinging of the radar increases in speed and pitch and the rings of the radar light a solid white as you near closer to the portal.

When close enough, your Reliquary Radar will have all solid white circles and a Shattered Reliquary portal will appear.

magic legends overworld shattered reliquary

Within the Reliquary you will find enemies similar to those found in Northern Tolaria;

  • Experimental (colourless, no affinity to any mana)
  • Black Mana wraiths
  • Red Mana elementals

Of these enemies, there are four (4) Champions and one Elite Empowered Experimental Avenger +1 Buff.

Currently the rewards for completing Shattered Reliquaries are unable to be obtained due to a bug making player characters get stuck in combat and unable to interact with the final object to ‘Extract Relic’.

Mythic Encounters and World Bosses

magic legends overworld mythic creature icon Mythic Encounter

These are a powerful boss that spawn ~4 minutes after the previous one has either been defeated or retreated.

Their guaranteed drop table consists of 20 Spell Pages; dropping 10 Common, 6 Uncommon, and 4 Rare/Legendary.

An on-screen alert will pop up with ‘A Mythic Encounter Has Spawned’ and they can be found in the vicinity of the red circle.

They have another ~4 minute timer before retreating as well, with a 1-minute warning of ‘The Mythic Encounter will retreat soon.’

The actual spawn locations of the Mythic Encounters are in fixed locations within the region and can be seen on the below maps.

magic legends overworld world boss echo icon World Boss (Echo)

Also known as Echoes, World Bosses are apart of the Overworld Escalation ‘quest’ permanently available in each region.

By completing overworld activities and increasing the Planar Instability, a portal to the region’s echo will spawn.

This planar instability counter is unique to the instance for the region. If you leave the overworld instance and rejoin, you may find you have gained or lost progress towards the Echo portal, depending on the new instance you have joined.

The Echo portal can be joined by all those sharing your region instance, with two bosses in the portal arena. The Echoes have a 10-minute timer before the Planar Instability resets and the portal closes.

If anyone in your overworld instance defeats the Echoes, the portal closes.

NPC Rescue (Gold Reward)

NPC Rescues are unmarked on the map and only reward Gold for your efforts. There are nine (9) to be found in each region and have a three (3) minute respawn timer from when they are completed. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to locate all nine for every single region. If you find the missing activities in Gavony (2), Shiv (1), and Tolaria (1).

Some of these a bugged in the way that if someone runs past and pulls aggro on the enemies and they don’t die, then the NPC gets stuck.

These activities involve a small variety of challenges including rescuing the NPC from a horde of enemies, defending them while they research the environment, and being tricked into helping them to only be ambushed for your kindness. These take less than 30 seconds to complete and reward the following amounts of Gold depending on your difficulty:

Normal – 150 Gold
Hard – 187 Gold
Expert – 300 Gold
Master – 637 Gold

Overworld Maps with Mythic Encounter, World Boss, and Rescue Locations

As previously mentioned, despite a large red ‘spawn radius’ of Mythic Encounters, the exact spawn location is a set point. On top of that, each Mythic Encounter has the same three (3) powers/buffs each time they spawn.

I have marked each of these set spawn locations for each region, as well as the nine (9) Rescues noted by the Gold icon.
