Welcome to our Oathbound Paladin Guide, updated for Ravenloft, mod 14. In this guide, we will give you tips and info on how to play the Oathbound Paladin class.

The Oathbound Paladin is a holy warrior, introduced in mod 6: Elemental Evil. They can either be Healers through the Oath of Devotion paragon path or Tanks through Oath of Protection.

The purpose of our class guides is not just to show you a build that you can copy and use on your character, but to show you a base build and teach you the mechanics and stats of the game, so you can understand and play your class to its fullest capabilities. Try different gear, feats and powers and learn to tailor your own build for your playstyle. See our guide to making your own build for more info.

Oathbound Paladin Enchantments

When getting enchantments, always get the ones with the stats you are lacking in with your gear, boons, etc in mind. For example, if you’ve capped Crit with your gear and boons, don’t get azure enchantments for your offense slots. If you still need to refine your enchantments, see our Refinement Guide for tips on how to farm refinement.

Armor Enchantments :

  • Negation Enchantment

Weapon Enchantments :

  • Feytouched Enchantment

Offense Enchantments :

  • Radiant Enchantments

Defense Enchantments :

  • Radiant Enchantments

Utility Enchantments:

Dragon’s Hoard x2 + QuartmasterX2 + 1 Fey Blessing  or Dark Enchantments.

Overload Enchantments :

  • Corrupt Black Ice Enchantment

Armor Reinforcement Kits :

  • Power Armor Kit

Jewelry Reinforcement Kits:

  • Action Point Gain Jewel

Oathbound Paladin Consumables & Buffs

Consider to get VIP for the Power of VIP HP buff if you aren’t already. Also always stand in campfires to get the +1 ability campfire buff.

Get one from each of the rows below:

  • Empowered Chain of Scales (Best in Slot) > Adorable Pocket Pet > Tymora’s Lucky Coin
  • Elixir of Corellion’s Blood
  • Watermelot Sorbet

Oathbound Paladin Companions

The best companions for Oathbound Paladins are:

  • Summoned Companion: Chultan Tiger
  • Active Companions: Air Archon, Earth Archon, Energon, Siege Master / Tamed Velociraptor (if rest of party is using one)

Companion Gear

For the companion gear from Illusionist’s Gambit, the +4 rings are actually better than the +5 as they have two offensive/defensive enchantment slots and the +5 has an overload slot.

  • Bold/Heroic Gear of the Companion
  • Masterwork Rings
  • +4/+5 Rings

Companion Runestones: Bonding Runestones

Oathbound Paladin Mounts

When choosing a Legendary Mount for the Mount Powers, look for a mount that has both a useful equip and combat power. The best choices for a first legendary mount as a Oathbound Paladin is a Black Ice Warhorse.

What other mounts you use is not that important. What is important is to get the right insignia bonuses, and many different mounts can offer the various bonuses. To find out what mount has the bonus you want, check out our Insignia Bonus Guide.

All classes and specs should consider using Wanderer’s Fortune before you have refined all your gear and enchantments, for extra refinement every day.

The Best Oathbound Paladin Insignia Bonuses:

  • Assassin’s Covenant – Protector’s Camaraderie –  Artificer’s Persuasion – Gladiators Guile – Cavalry’s Warning

Insignia Type:

  • Dominance > Prosperity > Skill

Oathbound Paladin Mount Powers:

  • Mount Equip Power: Dominant Force (4000 power)
  • Mount Combat Power: Aureal Armament (Swift Golden Lion)  Warpainted Tyrannosaurus Rex’em (Warpainted Tyrannosaur)

I just have a question about the Devotion Feats. you spend 23 Heroic point. I only have 20 and don’t know how to get more. is the fist or the sun to priorize ?

thank you for you building tips. the paladin was my first character ever made on NVN and had a lot of difficulties on lvl 70 ( mainly hit on dps instead of def). So it was a lot of dying and frustration, so for I nearly wanted to delete the charcter. thanks to your build i do a lesser damage, but it makes up with a shiny health meter that never goes down 70%. Also I’d like to play again with my paladin. SO thank you for bringing back to fun in the game for me again!!!!

Orcus set instead of Barovian set? Orcus is good only for dps (and you’re there for powershare, so Barovian set is better)

    • Thank you for pointing this out. For some reason the guide hadn’t updated properly the last when we updated it for mod 14. Updated now.

Good question, overlooked by the build. To me, you need to get your armor piercing from your companion gear in order to get Defenses Ignored to 100% needed for mod14. I’m currently using Dark Enchantments but will have to Eventually use Savage or Brutal once I hit the cap. 1000 AP is also gained from Mythic Tarokka as well (I guess it’s nice to have – keep tarokkka on in barovia, replace it for mod 13 content where 80% AP needed).

For solo and 2 man hunts I’m much better off in barovia with 100% AP, even though I currently need guild offensive boon to reach it (13k atm with Shyte enchantments). But, I do best damage with this setup and definitely keep aggro on the hunts. Once my bondings are higher I can go to guild offensive power boon.

Btw, you don’t want offensive/defensive slots on your companion rings (Hp useless on companion, defense/deflect/ls is ok, but best to get all your AP from your companions). Get beaded assault rings which have 2 offensive slots for your armor piercing. They can be bought in the AH.

Thanks dan for your suggestions 😉
If i can, i would like to reccomend to all of you to take the masterwork ring and belt and neck, because it seems that in module 15 are going to go to 560 item level..
