Beginner’s Warden Magicka DPS Build for The Elder Scrolls Online

Welcome to the Beginner’s Warden Magicka DPS Build/Guide for Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). This guide will teach you the basics of building a Warden Magicka DPS and provide you with the necessary tools to start your journey as an effective damage dealer in ESO.

Race Selection:

While any race can be a Warden Magicka DPS, the following races have passives that make them more suitable for the role:

  1. High Elf (Altmer): Max Magicka, Spell Damage, and Magicka Recovery
  2. Breton: Max Magicka, Magicka Recovery, and Cost Reduction
  3. Dark Elf (Dunmer): Max Magicka, Max Stamina, and Spell Damage

Attribute Points:

Allocate all 64 points into Magicka to maximize your damage output. This can be changed later as you adapt and get better gear and stats.

Mundus Stone:

The Apprentice (Spell Damage) or The Mage (Max Magicka)

Food and Potions:

  • Food: Bi-stat food (Max Health and Magicka) or Witchmother’s Potent Brew (Max Health, Magicka, and Magicka Recovery)
  • Potions: Essence of Spell Power or basic health/magicka potions

Skills:

The skill setup for a beginner Warden Magicka DPS is as follows:

Bar 1 – Destruction Staff (Flame or Lightning):

  1. Screaming Cliff Racer – Morph to Dive
  2. Deep Fissure – Morph to Scorch
  3. Winter’s Revenge – Morph to Impaling Shards
  4. Blue Betty – Morph to Betty Netch
  5. Inner Light – Morph to Mage’s Light
  6. Ultimate: Eternal Guardian – Morph to Feral Guardian

Bar 2 – Destruction Staff (Flame or Lightning):

  1. Blockade of Elements – Morph to Wall of Elements
  2. Growing Swarm – Morph to Fetcher Infection
  3. Harness Magicka – Morph to Annulment
  4. Budding Seeds – Morph to Healing Seed
  5. Inner Light – Morph to Mage’s Light
  6. Ultimate: Elemental Rage – Morph to Elemental Storm

Champion Points:

As a beginner, focus on the following CP allocation to improve your Magicka DPS abilities. Keep in mind that these allocations may change as you progress and experiment with different playstyles. Note that the CP cap is 3600, but this guide assumes you have 1800 CP available.

Craft (Green):

  1. Slot 1: Steed’s Blessing – 50 points
  2. Slot 2: Breakfall – 50 points
  3. Slot 3: Wanderer – 50 points

Warfare (Red):

  1. Slot 1: Eldritch Insight – 50 points
  2. Slot 2: Precision – 50 points
  3. Slot 3: Piercing – 50 points
  4. Slot 4: Deadly Aim – 50 points (Slot Unlock at 1200 CP)
  5. Slot 5: Thaumaturge – 50 points (Slot Unlock at 1800 CP)

Spend remaining points in:

  1. Elemental Aegis (up to 50 points)
  2. Hardy (up to 50 points)
  3. Ironclad (up to 50 points)
  4. Blessed (up to 50 points)
  5. Quick Recovery (up to 50 points)

Fitness (Blue):

  1. Slot 1: Tumbling – 50 points
  2. Slot 2: Mystic Tenacity – 50 points
  3. Slot 3: Hero’s Vigor – 50 points
  4. Slot 4: Defiance – 50 points (Slot Unlock at 1200 CP)
  5. Slot 5: Hasty – 50 points (Slot Unlock at 1800 CP)

Spend remaining points in:

  1. Sprinter (up to 50 points)
  2. Tireless Discipline (up to 50 points)
  3. Relentless Focus (up to 50 points)
  4. Fortification (up to 50 points)
  5. Piercing Gaze (up to 50 points)

Passives:

  1. Destruction Staff: All passives
  2. Light Armor: All passives
  3. Heavy Armor: Juggernaut passive
  4. Medium Armor: Wind Walker and Athletics passives
  5. Warden: All passives in Animal Companions, Green Balance, and Winter’s Embrace
  6. Undaunted: Undaunted Command and Undaunted Mettle
  7. Racial: All passives for your chosen race
  8. Mages Guild: Persuasive Will, Mage Adept, Everlasting Magic, Magicka Controller, and Might of the Guild
  9. Fighter’s Guild: Banish the Wicked and Slayer (optional)

Gear:

As a beginner, your priority should be to acquire easy-to-obtain gear that provides good bonuses. Here’s a beginner-friendly gear setup:

  • 5x Julianos (Crafted set, requires 6 traits researched)
  • 5x Mother’s Sorrow (Deshaan overland or Guild Traders)
  • 2x Monster Set: Grothdarr (Vaults of Madness) or Ilambris (Crypt of Hearts I)

Traits and Enchantments:

  • Armor: Divines on all pieces with Magicka enchantments
  • Weapons: Infused on main hand Destruction Staff with Shock or Fire enchantment; Precise or Infused on back bar Destruction Staff with Absorb Magicka or Weapon Damage enchantment
  • Jewelry: Arcane with Spell Damage or Magicka Recovery enchantments
