Free Online MMORPG’s part 2

One of the more popular free online MMORPG games on the market is designed for those without a torrent of computing power. Supreme Destiny is a role-playing game that doesn’t take up massive amounts of hard drive space, but still provides much better than average graphics and animation.

In fact, Supreme Destiny packs in some of the highest quality artwork to be found among the free game universe.

Obviously, if you are getting away without paying the monthly fees, something has to give. You can’t expect a free online MMORPG to give you everything that a pay online MMORPG offers, right?

Some of these games will suffer from poorer animation and graphics than Supreme Destiny. But even that game has some drawbacks. Many users complain that it doesn’t offer enough choice in races.

Other complaints common to the free games are that the leveling takes too long or advances too slowly, that there aren’t enough quests to keep things interesting, and that sometimes the free play remains free only up to a certain level, although this level is usually pretty high, and not something dinky like level 5 or 10.

Will a free online MMORPG ever replace one of the pay games as a must-have? Doubtful. But in the meantime, they are starting to look more and more alike.

Free Online MMORPGs part 1

Playing those massively multiplayer online role playing games can be fun, thrilling, addictive…and costly. The monthly fees that are required to keep your habit going can add up over time.

Which is why an ever-increasing number of free online MMORPG sites are popping up and taking advantage of the addictive qualities of the games?

The quality of a free online MMORPG is going to vary, naturally, as the quality of any online game varies. Surprisingly, however, many of the biggest names in this genre have decided to go the free route. Of course, when it comes to online role playing games, the word free has a certain, shall we say, elasticity.

For instance, if you want to play Guild Wars for free, you’re going to have to pay for the privilege. What that particular little bit of doublespeak means is that you can play Guild Wars without putting out the monthly fee, yes, but you will still have to go to the store and buy a copy of the software. Or buy it at an online store. Or eBay.

The point is that that you will still have to spend a little something before you can take advantage of its free online MMORPG status. How much does the software cost? Well, once again, it’s going to vary, but the average seems to be somewhere in the $50.00 range.

Another thing to consider when looking around for a free online MMORPG is the power of your computer. Often games are made available for free because they simply don’t have the power to compete with the top of the line of games.

Maybe they’re a little older and slower, maybe they don’t come with as many features, maybe they are designed to run on older, slower computers.

MMORPG Trials part 2

The trial is designed to dazzle you and draw you in. If you are easily dazzled, stay away. On the other hand, because a trial does give you a no-obligation chance to try out the game, it does have an obvious benefit. Playing the trial version will give you a glimpse into what you can expect from the game that you just simply can’t get by looking at the box or screenshots or reading reviews.

But does a MMORPG trial version really give you an accurate reflection of real game play? That’s the most difficult question of all. The thing about free trials is that almost every one of them differs from each other. The approach to free trials varies substantially. While all of them come with a time limit, the actual amount of time varies significantly.

One game may grant you a month’s worth of free play, while another gives you only thirty minutes. Some games only allow you to play in certain areas while others give you complete access, but only up to a certain level. In other games, you may not be able to go on certain quests or buy certain items.

On a more realistic level, some games require you to enter credit card information in order to take advantage of the trial, while others allow you to download without giving any personal information.

When it comes down to it, the offer of a free MMORPG trial is probably something that most would-be consumers should take advantage of. While it does present a psychological risk to those who are more apt to buy things they’ve tried out—and who have a history of buyer remorse—there’s really no reason not to take advantage of the offer.

Except in those cases where the company requires credit card information. This, too, usually doesn’t present a problem when dealing with well-known companies who have a reputation. But if you decide to give your credit card info to a company you’ve never heard of before, take a moment to step back and do a quick search on them under the “news” tab of your search engine.

If they’ve been involved in any recent scam, it should more than likely show up.

MMORPG Trials part 1

That of the MMORPG trial period? Is it worth it? Does it really give you an accurate reflection of game play? What is the point?

First, the last question. The point of an MMORPG trial period is to draw you into the game. Nothing will make you buy a game quicker than actual game play that is enjoyable.

Game play beats out even the best reviews, even the best recommendation from a trusted friend, everything. When it comes to online games, nothing lands a sale quicker than getting you hooked by letting you enjoy the gaming experience yourself. So, that’s the point of a trial.

Is it worth the effort of trying out a MMORPG trial offer? As long as you remember that the whole point is get to hooked enough to buy it and keep playing it, then yes.

But if you are the impressionable type who can easily get sucked into buying something that’s demonstrated to you, perhaps you should avoid them. Even though the analogy of a door to door salesman showing off his fancy new vacuum cleaner doesn’t exactly fit because there’s no real salesman involved in a free trial, the psychology is the same.

Play MMORPGs For Free Part 2

Take a look around you. Not just on the computer, but in your home or office or library or bus or train or plane or wherever it is that you are reading this right now. Are you someplace where there is absolutely no advertisement of any kind? Ads and the products they sell will be what keep MMORPG play free games alive.

If the game makers aren’t making money through advertisements, they’ll try to make it through selling you premium versions or expansion packs or even special items you can use in the game. At some point, however, the free games have to start producing profits or they will disappear. (Although the movement toward user-created games looks promising).

Right now the MMORPG play free universe is still relatively young. Things are still wide open and that’s good news for gamers. Free games tend to be a little more cutting edge and original than the games have to appeal to a mass pool of consumers to make it. Take advantage of this fact.

If you’re tired of games that seem almost identical at times, looking into what’s available for free. It may not look as good or run as smooth, but it may just bring you a little more challenge that the games everybody else are playing.

Play MMORPGs For Free Part 1

An MMORPG play free game doesn’t necessarily have to be a letdown to users of pay for play games, though most certainly do contain at least one or two factors that aren’t as good as the pay games. The word free, after all, is the single most effective word in advertising (the word sex follows closely behind, of course) and it has been known to sell inferior product. So what do you stand to gain and what do you stand to lose by going the free route?

Well, for one thing, most obviously you will gain money. A MMORPG play free game should be just that: free. With the big guns in the business you not only buy the game up front, but also keep shelling out that fee every month. On the other hand, though you keep the money in your pocket you may have to give up the really great graphics and other features that most free games lack in comparison to the pay games.

This used to be a primary lack of incentive for choosing the MMORPG play free experience, but the free games have been getting better and making up some of the distance. The free MMORPGs that are coming out of Korea have especially been making leaps in quality.

However, even with improved graphics and sound and overall design, the free games still lag far behind the pay games in terms of support, updates, patches, bugs and game lag. Not to mention that many of the lesser known ones don’t have enough players to satisfy some. Perhaps the biggest obstacle to continuing success for the MMORPG play free philosophy is good old economics.

If something is free to you that means somebody else is paying for it somehow.

Since you aren’t buying or subscribing to the free games, how can they possibly exist?

MMORPG Scams

The world of online role-playing games is just as subject to dirty pool as anything else.  The number of MMORPG scams seems to be rising, and including methods that were unknown just a few years ago.  Although MMORPGs are usually relatively free from the kinds of “cheat codes” that are found so often in other video games, most of the problems that players experience have more to do with people capitalizing on good old-fashioned human nature.

The typical MMORPG scams play out more like a grifter’s game, jumping on the inexperience of a new player or the greed of a veteran player.  Often these scams revolve around a quick and easy acquisition of something that another player wants.  Even his reasons for wanting those things has undergone a tremendous change.

Let’s say you are new to the game and aren’t completely familiar with all its little idiosyncrasies and key entry rules.  A perfect example of this type of scam can be found in Lineage 2.  You meet someone and decide to trade for an item you’ve been wanting.  You complete the trade process and hit OK.  Instead of the trade going through, however, it gets canceled.  Being new, you assume that somehow you hit the wrong button or something.  The trade window pops up and you do it all over again and this time is works.

The other player takes off and when you check out your inventory you find that what you thought you were getting isn’t there, but rather a lower level copy.  This is not an accident.  The other player assumed you wouldn’t look too closely at the item the second time around and so he slipped in an inferior item the second time.  Happens at garage sales around the country every weekend.

In this case, of course, you just lost one item in exchange for a junky one.  Other MMORPG scams can cost you more.    Beware any time you are asked for any log-in information.   Sometimes the request will appear as if it is coming from the game administrators themselves.  You’ll get a message claiming one of a thousand different reasons that your information is needed and all of them seem perfectly reasonable.  Of course, once you give that information away, you’ll lose a lot more than just a nice sword.

With the rise of real world currency exchange for virtual world gold and items, MMORPG scams have moved into a whole new arena.  It used to be that people trying to get your log-in information were just trying to help their own characters along, but now many of those people are actually making money.  Any time you get a request for any confidential information about your account, consider that a red flag.

Now that actual profit has entered the picture, many people are invading other players’ accounts and raiding their reserves not for their own use, but to sell to other players.  Real world cash is a far bigger draw for the scammer than virtual world gold and as such, it should only be expected that the number of MMORPG scams are going to be on the rise.
