The Complete Fighter Vanguard Tank Build – Neverwinter Mod 29 Mountain of Flame
Welcome to our Fighter Vanguard Guide, updated for Mod 29: Mountain of Flame.
In Neverwinter, the Fighter Vanguard is a tank that can hold its own against the toughest of enemies. The Fighter Vanguard is a tank class that excels at taking hits and holding enemies in place. They are the perfect class for players who want to be up close and personal with their enemies. If you want to dish out some damage, consider a Dreadnought build loadout as well.
In this guide, we will discuss everything you need to know about playing this class effectively. We’ll cover important stats, skills, and gear for the Fighter Vanguard, as well as some tips on how to survive in Neverwinter’s harsh environments.
The purpose of our class guides is not just to show you a build that you can copy and use on your character, but to show you a base build and teach you the mechanics and stats of the game, so you can understand and play your class to its fullest capabilities.
Try different gear, feats, and powers, and learn to tailor your own build for your playstyle. See our guide to making your own build for more info.
Basic Fighter Vanguard Info
Below is all the basic information for the Vanguard, from race choices to stats.
Other Fighter Builds
Race
What race you play doesn’t play a huge role, but will give you a small boost. Generally, I would advise you to play a race that you enjoy.

Ability Score Priority
Put all your available Ability Scores into Strength and Constitution. Alternatively, put some points into Charisma instead of Strength depending on what you need.
Stat / Rating Priority
Your cap for each stat is based on your item level. To cap a stat, the numbers of the stat need to be equal to or higher than your item level.
If your stat number is higher than your item level, you are wasting stats and should try to allocate stats differently.
For every 1000 points, a stat is lower than your item level you lose 1% in that stat.
As a tank, your main focus should be on Defensive stats.
Offensive Stats
- Power (90%)
- Critical Strike (90%)
- Critical Severity (90%)
- Combat Advantage (90%)
- Accuracy (90%)
Defensive Stats

If you have any questions or suggestions about our Neverwinter Fighter Vanguard guide, please leave a comment below!
For all the builds… metallic dragon born is 3% hp and 3% healing… regular dragon born is 5% healing. Both have 1500 crit and 3% damage.
What about menzo drow race
Ur gear is not bis sry to tell u
Not BiS and also very DPS oriented and not Tank oriented…
Harper bard stats are incorrect.
16000 HP
2000 Awareness
Is that build updated? The ecounters choices are terrible… Im here cuz the equipment but I cant trust it since other things in that build arent good.
critical deflection over combat balance is bs… Can you explain me why you choose that?
Probably needs updating for the recent Mount changes and Mythic mounts
I’s different to my Vanguard, so it’s good to see what others are doing.
Cheers!
This is out of date for mod 19 super frustrating can’t find a soulweave build or dps hellbringer guide that works and add fighter tank to the list all I need is armor suggestions for the lot
It says in the title that’s it for Mod 19, how’s it out of date?
@Cathartic,
I says Mod 22 now.
This definitely needs an update now after the massive combat change.
Seriously???
